As a design fabricator, the disposal of residual waste is the greatest opportunity area in regards to developing a sustainable platform.
Since the signage industry’s use of materials is predominantly metals, comprising 50% of the operating total, as well as plastics, finding suitable partners with the resource and expertise to handle material waste was a key factor in adopting and accessibility platform.

Acumen has also maintained strategic partnerships with post recycling companies specializing in the purchasing, grading, handling and processing of all ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals providing the perfect “blue box” solution for Acumen Visual Group’s metal recycling program.
Post-consumer and Environmentally-friendly Materials
In order to form a closed loop on our metal sourcing, Acumen has formed strategic partnerships in metal purchasing with Almag Inc. who has satisfied requirements for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Almag 6005, 6061, and 6063 are based on the Green Building Rating System.
Acumen has also formed strategic partnerships with selected partner/suppliers that possess the expertise required to fabricate or manufacturer a practical yet sustainable implementation of materials. Examples, Acumen uses Matthews Paint System who’sMPC offers two product lines that are 2.8 or 3.5 VOC compliant. Acumen uses only FSC certified wood. Products carrying the FSC label. Acumen also sources wood & composites such as MDF (Medium density fiberboard), which is a composite wood product similar to particleboard, as well as Ultra Board, which is an all-plastic, 100% recyclable foam centered board. Acumen also adopted the 3form’s 100 PERCENT™ post-consumer recycling program, as well as promoting the use of sustainable materials such as Fibre C (100% recycled glass Fibre concrete), which Acumen received recognition for concept design construct at the 2007 IDEX show. Acumen recycles all plastic materials used within the fabrication process, using Post Plastics Canada Inc., a full service plastic recycling company. Acumen has been early adopters of LED lighting technology andSustainable & Solar-powered Lighting which powers a portion of our building requirements.
